Hunzib

Explanation of terms

Hunzib belongs to the Avar-Andi-Dido group of the Daghestan languages.
The self-designation is Kapuchias suko or Bezhtl´as suko, depending on the village; russ. капучинцы, бежитины.

Area of distribution

The Hunzib live in the upper basin of the Avarskoe Koisu (in the Tlirata region, in Bezhity, Khocharkhota and Tliadal auls of Daghestan).

Dialect varieties

Hunzib, Khunzal and Hinukh are now regarded as dialects of the same language.

The language is unwritten, Avar is used as literary language.
